Tens of thousands of commercial and recreational salmon businesses and employees, families, and fishermen and women need your help! Join us in urging the California Senate and Assembly to include essential funding for salmon hatcheries in any natural resources or climate bond passed by the legislature this year.
Salmon are an essential part of California’s natural heritage and – with healthy runs – support 23,000 jobs and $1.4 billion in economic activity. That natural heritage and our fishing economy are fighting for survival.
These bonds must include adequate hatchery funding – we are seeking at least $100 million – that support benefits for economically critical fall-run Chinook salmon including:
- Increased fall-run Chinook salmon hatchery production;
- Improved juvenile release practices;
- Upgraded and expanded hatcheries;
- Implementation of genetic parental-based tagging to monitor success; and
- Endangered Species Act listed winter- and spring-run Chinook salmon.
We need the voices of all fishing industry businesses, trade associations and organizations, port associations, commercial and recreational fishing owner/operators, tackle manufacturers and retailers, fish brokers, fishing guide business owners, and all GSSA members and the general public.
On behalf of all of us at Golden State Salmon Association, thank you for your support. Don’t forget to ask your friends and family to sign as well.
