As part of Golden State Salmon Association’s Roger Thomas Fund, which provides inner city and disadvantaged children with exciting, hands-on fisheries experiences including opportunities to attend unforgettable hatchery salmon fish releases and charter boat ocean fishing trips, GSSA partnered with the Salesian Boys’ and Girls’ Club and Sole Man Sportfishing to get kids on the water and fishing.
During the June 17th live bait trip, kids and crew reeled in success with limits of stripers and 1 halibut. As reported by Ken Baccetti, member of the Board of Directors of the Salesian Boys’ and Girls’ Club, “The children were so excited, and three of them told me they’ve never fished before. They all went home with numerous fish filets.”
GSSA’s Roger Thomas Youth Fishing Endowment Fund is used to get youth under the age of 18 out fishing. These funds provide kids an opportunity to experience, often for the first time, an unforgettable fishing trip that lasts a lifetime, and inspires the next generation of fishermen and women.
A special thanks to Ken Baccetti and Don Franklin for helping create future fishery stewards and fishermen and women – the trip was a huge success!
